For Immediate Release
Concord, MA, January 2, 2014: The Princeton (NJ) Public Library will be hosting a free screening of the PBS documentary, "The Smartest Team: Making High School Football Safer," on Tuesday, January 7th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Rosemarie Scolaro Moser, PhD, Director of the Sports Concussion Center of New Jersey and a featured expert in "The Smartest Team," and the documentary's producer/director, Brooke de Lench, Founder and Publisher of MomsTEAM.com, will be on hand after the screening to answer questions parents, coaches and athletes have about the making of the film or about concussions in general.
"The Smartest Team" follows a high school football team in Oklahoma during the 2012 season and looks at the steps they are taking to safely manage the growing concussion epidemic. These include reducing the risk of a player sustaining a concussion, and effectively identifying concussed athletes, and safely and conservatively managing them, after they occur in order to minimize time away from the classroom (a concept now called "return to learn") and maximize the chances of a safe return to play. The film premiered on the stations of the Oklahoma Education Networkon all PBS stations on August 14th, and has since been aired on over 300 of PBS's 387 affiliates across the country. Additional broadcasts on PBS are scheduled for 2014.
In addition to Dr. Moser, the film also features Dr. William P. Meehan, Director of the Sports Concussion Clinic at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Joseph A. Congeni, Director of the Sports Medicine Center at Akron Children's Hospital, and Coach Bobby Hosea, developer of the Head Free Tackle TM method. The film is narrated by two-time Super Bowl winner and Big Ten Network announcer, Howard Griffith.
The Princeton Public Library is located at 65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ 08542.
