Boxing: Pronunciation: \ˈbäk-siŋ\
the art of attack and defense with the fists practiced as a sport
Boxing is a fast, fierce, exciting, dangerous, and sometimes brutal sport in which victory is achieved when an opponent is knocked to the ground and unable to get up within ten seconds (a knockout) or if the opponent is considered too injured to continue the match (a technical knockout).
If your child is going to start boxing, training, and the proper protective gear must be purchased (headgear, gloves, and mouth guard). Trainers can be found at most local gyms. Trainers teach proper work outs and decide when your child is ready for a match. Amateur boxing is an Olympic sport and can also be found at the collegiate level. Before you sign your child up, buy lots of tissues and be prepared to take care of inevitable bloody noses!
MomsTeam's goal is to provide comprehensive information on boxing: advice on the equipment needed and how to buy it, a primer on the rules of the sport, and videos and advice from experts, parents, and manufacturers of boxing gear.
But to do that we are going to need your help. If you are a parent of a child who boxes or has boxed, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming a boxing expert. If you know of someone who used to box or coach boxing who has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join. Together we can make MomsTeam a true community of sports parents!
