Sky Surfing: Fast & Risky
Sky Surfing: Pronunciation: \-?s?r-fi?\
skydiving in which the participant performs maneuvers during free fall while riding on a modified surfboard
Sky surfing is a type of skydiving in which a board is attached to a sky divers feet so that he or she can perform acrobatic stunts traditionally seen in surfing and snowboarding. Sky surfing requires a lot of practice to develop necessary skills. This sport can be highly dangerous and it is necessary to have the proper protective gear, training and certifications.
Sky surfing became very popular in the late 1990's when competitive team sky surfing became part of the ESPN X Games; however, after the year 2000 ESPN did not renew the sport and sky surfing participation dropped. Not only was it considered more hazardous than other sky sports, but the number of sky surfing experts was too low to train new pilots.
MomsTeam's goal is to provide comprehensive information on sky surfing: advice on the equipment needed and how to buy it, a primer on the rules of the sport, and videos and advice from experts, parents, and manufacturers of sky surfing gear.
But to do that we are going to need your help. If you are a parent of a child who sky surfs or has sky surfed, we hope you will share what you have learned with other MomsTeam parents. Please consider writing a blog, contributing an article, posting on and/or hosting a Forum, or becoming a sky surfing expert. If you know of someone who used to play or coach sky surfing who has knowledge to share, ask him or her to join. Together we can make MomsTeam a true community of sports parents!
